Celtic receive massive Jordan Larsson transfer boost

In many ways, Jordan Larsson would be a dream signing for Celtic. Firstly, because he is a very good player on his day. In the 2020/21 campaign, the Swedish international enjoyed a brilliant campaign. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 15 goals and provided 5 assists in 29 Russian Premier Liga games that season for Spartak Moscow.

Larsson was linked with a move to Celtic last summer as well but at the point of time, he was rated at a transfer fee around £15 million, a figure that the Hoops were not capable of shelling out on one player. Thus, it was not surprise that the links led nowhere.

The picture is very different now though. Larsson is coming off of a poor campaign and he has also parted ways with Spartak Moscow, and is available as a free agent.

Thus, it is understandable why Celtic are being linked with a move for him once again and now, it looks like their path to the striker might not be very complicated. AIK, where Larsson had spent time on loan last season, where believed to be the favourites to sign him at one point. But now, as reported by the Daily Record, the club’s sporting director Henrik Jurelius told Aftonbladet:

“It turned out in a very good way for Jordan when his contract was broken and he became a free agent. At the same time, it became more difficult for us (to sign him) given the market that I think opens up for him.

“And it became natural that when he left that he does not, at such an early stage, rule himself out for any alternative or decision, even if we wanted to keep him. But we said that we keep in touch and see how it develops. There was interest in him already last summer, where clubs followed him.

“And he has delivered at a level here that is above the Allsvenskan and that opens doors. It would be naive of us to think that he will not get good offers from good clubs. He has a fairly high reputation in Europe and has probably only strengthened the shares to reach his goals.”

Celtic handed massive boost in chase to sign Larsson this summer

Thus, it sounds like the AIK sporting director are not very confident in their own chances of signing Larsson.

On the other hand, if Celtic had the opportunity to sign him, they should definitely try to make it happen.

The Hoops could need another striker, with Kyogo and Giorgos Giakoumakis having their injury problems and Albian Ajeti potentially leaving.
