Celtic likely to make major official announcement today

Celtic have continued to strengthen their squad over the course of the summer despite winning the Premiership and League Cup double last season. It is great to see Ange Postecoglou being backed by the club, although a guaranteed place in the UEFA Champions League group stage surely would have helped in that regard.

Celtic have already signed Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur after his brilliant loan spell last season, in a deal that could rise up to £10 million with add-ons. A move for Jota is also believed to be only a matter of time.

And now, it looks like the club are on the verge of signing Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus as well, in order to provide some much needed competition to Greg Taylor at left-back.

As reported by The Herald, Bernabei arrived in Glasgow yesterday to put finishing touches on a 5-year deal after the Hoops agreed a £3.75 million deal with Lanus and the Argentine is likely to be announced as a Celtic player today.

Left-back has been viewed as an area of weakness for Celtic for quite some time now, ever since Kieran Tierney left the club to join Arsenal in the summer of 2019 in a Scottish record £25 million deal.

Since then, nobody has really been able to fill the void left behind by the Scottish international. It must be said though that Taylor showed a lot of improvement last season and proved himself to be a Premiership-winning left-back.

Bernabei can prove to be a great fit in Postecoglou’s style of football. His rapid pace, dribbling ability, quality in the final third of the pitch and aggressiveness off the ball, all suit a full-back in Angeball.

Of course, there is a certain level of risk involved in the move as well, as Bernabei has never played in Europe. But if the move does work out, it has the potential to be another transfer masterstroke for Celtic in the Postecoglou Era.
