Celtic made some incredible additions to their squad last summer and in January, and they were huge reasons behind the club’s Premiership and League Cup double last season. It was a spectacular turnaround to say the least, after the Hoops had finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the disastrous 2020/21 campaign.
Thus, it is safe to say that Ange Postecoglou must be pretty happy with how things are at the moment. On top of that, Celtic have already completed the permanent signing of Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur and are believed to be closing in on a move for Jota as well. Rumours have suggested that they are in advanced talks with Benjamin Siegrist too.
If there is one role in the squad that needs reinforcements though, it is that of an enforcer, with Scott Brown leaving last summer and Nir Bitton at the end of last season.
Chris Sutton seems to believe that Celtic could do with an enforcer as well. In his column in the Daily Record, he wrote:
In my Celtic days it was Neil Lennon.
Subsequently, it was the likes of Scott Brown and Victor Wanyama who did the job.
It takes different pieces to fit a puzzle and, for all Celtic’s attacking quality, Ange Postecoglou will be aware you need balance.
And I’m convinced the Hoops could do with getting an enforcer in the door.
Not just for stepping up the levels to enter the heights of the Champions League group stages but to help on the home front, too.
Celtic could do with an enforcer in the middle of the park
In recent seasons, one complaint that fans have had with Celtic at times, is that they can get outplayed in the middle of the park against top sides. We have seen that time and again in Europe, and against the Rangers throughout the 2020/21 campaign as well.
As a result, the club could do with a midfield enforcer, especially with Champions League group stage football coming up, when they are guaranteed to come up against top opposition and will most probably not have as much of the ball as they normally do in the Scottish Premiership.
In that respect, the club have been linked with Brazilian defensive midfielder, Vinicius Souza, recently. He was immensely impressive on loan at KV Mechelen last season and has been linked with a whole host of clubs around Europe.
