Manager urges Celtic to sign brilliant free agent this summer

Celtic could be headed towards a very exciting summer transfer window. They have already completed a move for Cameron Carter-Vickers, signing the United States international defender from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal that could rise up to £10 million with add-ons. On the other hand, rumours coming out of Portugal have suggested that a permanent move for Jota is not far away either, with the Hoops having an option to buy set a transfer fee around €7.5 million.

It is safe to say that both these are significant transfer fees for Celtic. The club have certainly been helped by the fact that they are guaranteed Champions League group stage football and the financial boost that comes as a result of it.

At the same time though, it would be wrong for fans to expect the club to splash out on many more signings this summer, especially with no big money exit appearing on the horizon.

Thus, Celtic will do well to keep an eye on free agents, who could make a positive contribution to this team and strengthen the squad. And Tranmere Rovers manager, Micky Mellon, has urged the club to make a move for Benjamin Siegrist. As reported by The Sunday Mail (via Football Scotland), he said:

“He would be a great signing for Celtic because he has the ambition and character to do well there.

“There would be absolutely no problem with Benji’s temperament – he can handle playing for Celtic.

“With the amount of games they will have next season domestically and in Europe, they’ll need two keepers.

“All the big clubs need that to be successful now.

“And Siegrist alongside Joe Hart next season would give Celtic two brilliant options.”

Celtic urged to make move for free agent this summer

Celtic have already been linked with a move for Siegrist for quite some time. He was one of the best goalkeepers in Scotland during his time at Dundee United and as a result, could be excellent addition, especially as a free agent.

With Joe Hart 35 years of age and Celtic not having clear competition between the posts, signing Siegrist could be a good idea to be very honest. He is someone who can push the Manchester City legend for a first-team spot.

At the same time though, there is expected to be heavy competition for his signature, with the likes of the Rangers and even Manchester United, believed to be monitoring the Swiss goalkeeper’s situation.
