Celtic player linked with transfer to Premiership rival

Celtic will need to build a side capable of competing with the biggest names of Europe next season. Thanks to winning the Scottish Premiership, the Hoops have booked their place in the group stage of the Champions League for the upcoming season and will be returning to the competition after a gap of several years. Thus, they are expected to be keen to impress.

The very nature of the competition means that Celtic will have to step it up in the 2022/23 season. And thus, they will need a better squad. Amid the rumours of potential incomings and outgoings, the Hoops will need to sort out the future of Liam Scales at Parkhead.

Scales, still just 23 years of age, joined Celtic last summer and signed what is believed to be a four-year deal with the Scottish giants.

Following his bright spell with Shamrock Rovers, there were high hopes that Scales would be a success at Parkhead, but things have not quite gone that way. By the end of the previous season, he seemed completely out of the first-team picture.

The Celtic player is being linked with a move to a Premiership rival

As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, Aberdeen intend to ramp up their interest in Scales and try to sign him from Celtic. Manager Jim Goodwin is believed to be a long-term admirer of the player and wants to bring him to Pittodrie Stadium.

The Dons would seemingly prefer completing a permanent deal for the player. However, if they were to sign Scales this summer, it would be more likely be a loan deal rather than a permanent one.

The Irishman has not emerged as Postecoglou’s first-choice anywhere across the pitch. And with the club expected to bring in another left-back over the summer, a move away from Parkhead might not be the worst decision for his development.
