It will be very interesting to see how Celtic restructure their squad over the summer. There is no longer a rebuild needed at Parkhead, like was the case last time around, but at the same time, Ange Postecoglou could do with more options in several areas of the pitch. Thus, do not be surprised by some incomings over the coming weeks and months, which is evident from the number of players that the Hoops are being linked with.
At the same time though, there will be some, who end up leaving the club. Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton have already said their goodbyes to the fans. And now, it looks like the club have decided to release four of their players.
It is safe to say that none of them appeared to have a big chance of breaking into Postecoglou’s first-team plans next season and as a result, their exit is not expected to be a major blow on the short-term, although it has not been uncommon for players to thrive after being released by Celtic.
Celtic have let four players go this summer
Mullen is a goalkeeper. Now, while that might not be the club’s strongest position at the moment, there were just way too many options ahead of him. Joe Hart is the number with Scott Bain believed to be his back up, while Vasilis Barkas is expected to leave this summer.
But Tobi Oluwayemi is believed to be ahead of Mullen in the pecking order and as a result, it might be the right step for the youngster to move away from Parkhead. Sheffield United have offered him a trial.
The case of Connell is confusing to be honest as despite impressing on loan and in pre-season, he never ended up making a competitive appearance for Celtic.
Neither Paterson nor McInroy had many chances of getting into the first-team in the near future. Now, it remains to be seen where they end up after this and how they do.
