Celtic have enjoyed a brilliant season, better than most fans could have imagined coming into it. The Scottish League Cup win was considered as a huge success back in December after the 2020/21 campaign they had endured but Ange Postecoglou’s side decided to go one up and even clinched the Premiership title, finishing four points ahead of the Rangers.
Amidst the title celebrations, there was a tinge of sadness mixed in as well though, as Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton had decided that it was time for them to leave the club, and said their goodbyes to the Parkhead faithful.
Both had arrived at Celtic in 2013 and spent almost a decade at the club, a period of time laden with trophies and success. While it is sad to see them leave, it was also great that they could go out on such a high, as champions of Scotland.
There was a bit of confusion surrounding the exits as well though, as it was originally believed that their contracts ran till the summer of 2023. Bitton has confirmed though that he is a free agent. As reported by Mako (via 67 Hail Hail), the Israel international said:
“I’m now a free agent and I do not know how it feels, we will see what the plans are with the wife and children and we will make the best decision for all of us.”
Player confirms he is a free agent meaning his Celtic contract is up
That clears up the situation surrounding the exit of Bitton and it is now clear that Celtic will not be looking for any sort of token transfer fee to let him leave in the summer. And one would suspect that the situation with Rogic must be pretty much the same as well.
And to be honest, that is the right step to take when you consider the fact that both spent such a long period of time and were a part of so much success with the club.
Celtic will need to replace not only their qualities on the pitch but their experience as well. On the other hand, we can only wish both Rogic and Bitton the best of luck moving forward.
