Nir Bitton reveals what he will do after leaving Celtic

Nir Bitton was visibly emotional has he brought an end to his Celtic career amidst the Premiership title celebrations. The Israeli international had joined the club back in 2013 and even though he had not always been a regular starter, he was an important member of the squad through his time at Parkhead.

Even under the management of Ange Postecoglou, he was a regular contributor off the bench and had also played a key part as a starter for a period of time earlier on in the campaign. And it is believed that the club wanted to extend his current deal but the midfielder wanted a different challenge.

That is understandable as well. Bitton had achieved everything that was there to achieve at Celtic. He is also 30 years of age and would not be expected to be keen to spend the remaining years of his prime sitting on the bench.

Thus, one cannot complain that Bitton decided to bring an end to his Celtic journey here and we can only wish him the best of luck. The Israeli international has now shed some light on his plans moving forward as well. As reported by Mako (via 67 Hail Hail), he said:

“I do not feel full, I think my hunger only grows with time. I want to play in a club that takes championships and fights for titles of course, I have a lot more to contribute. The desire right now is to continue my European career overseas but I do not rule anything out, we will take the summer and make a decision together.”

Bitton sheds light on his plans after leaving Celtic

It looks like Bitton is not looking for a return to Israel just yet, even though rumours have linked the midfielder with several Israeli clubs since it emerged that he was set to leave Celtic.

When it comes to Celtic, the club must find a way to replace Bitton, who had the ability to play in defensive midfield as well as a centre-back. It would be incredible if Yosuke Ideguchi can fill in the gap in the middle of the park, after not making much of a contribution since arriving in January. Bosun Lawal, who has impressed immensely for the youth sides, could be an option worth considering as well.

Otherwise, the Hoops might have to dip into the transfer market and bring someone in who has the ability to play a similar role as Bitton.
