Ange Postecoglou appears to rubbish Celtic rumour about Jota

Celtic moved one huge step closer to the Premiership title by beating Hearts 4-1. Robbie Neilson’s side had taken the lead but could not hold on to it. Daizen Maeda, Kyogo, Matt O’Riley and Giorgos Giakoumakis found their names on the scoresheet to send the Hoops on the verge of glory. If the Rangers drop points tomorrow against Dundee United, the title race will be over. Otherwise, Ange Postecoglou’s side would still need a point more to seal the deal.

One player who did not find the back of the net on the day is Jota. But he still played a big part, setting up both Maeda and Kyogo’s respective strikes on the day.

Celtic fans made no secret of their appreciation for the Portuguese winger and he appeared to soak it all up as well. Questions had been raised about his form in the second half of the campaign but he has been stunning in the post-split fixtures.

His long-term future at Parkhead remains in doubt though. Some recent rumours had appeared to suggest that Celtic had already managed to agree a deal to sign but those appear to have been rubbished by Ange Postecoglou. As reported by the Daily Record, the manager said;

“In terms of next year, with him and Cameron (Carter-Vickers) we’re in a similar boat.

“If everyone wants something to happen it’ll happen.

“But right now the most important thing is they represent this club to the best of their ability and bring success to Celtic.

“Some players might get an offer they can’t refuse. There’s no guarantee any of us will be here next season – I mean I hope I am, but apart from that!

“You have to focus on the present and Jota was great again today.”

Postecoglou appears to rubbish latest Celtic rumour about Jota

Jota has been brilliant for Celtic overall this season and has been one of the club’s key players. Thus, it is important that they sign him on a permanent basis from Benfica.

It must be pointed out that this is the first season that Jota has thrived at the senior level after struggling at Benfica and on loan at Real Valladolid as well.

Celtic are believed to have an option to buy included in the loan deal for Jota of a transfer fee around £6.5 million. It might ultimately all come down to what he wants to do though. One can only hope that he chooses a Parkhead stay over a return to boyhood club, Benfica, or a move elsewhere.
