Celtic enjoyed one of their most successful transfer deadline days ever when they signed Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Giorgos Giakoumakis on the last day of the summer transfer window. All three have gone on to play massive roles in the club’s season, as they close in on the Premiership title. As things stand, the Hoops need four points from the last three league games to be crowned Champions of Scotland.
Only one of them, Giorgos Giakoumakis, was signed on a permanent basis though. Jota, from Benfica, and Carter-Vickers, from Tottenham Hotspur, arrived on season-long loans.
They have been regular fixtures in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI though and as a result, the fans have called for them to be signed on a permanent basis this summer. Celtic are believed to have an option to buy included in both their loan deals.
Postecoglou has made no secret of the fact that Celtic want to keep both Jota and Carter-Vickers although the manager has also been clear about the fact that no deal has been reached yet. As reported by The Scotsman, the manager said about the situation:
“Our intent is to try and keep them at our football club but these things need a point where all parties agree.
“I am hopeful we will get to that point but at this point we are not quite there yet.”
Can Celtic keep both Jota and Carter-Vickers at Parkhead?
It will be very interesting to see if Celtic can hold on to both Jota and Carter-Vickers. It must be pointed out that both have been linked with moves to the Premier League in recent times.
Jota has been one of Celtic’s most important players going forward this season and brings something very different to the table, with his incredible mix of trickery, vision and goalscoring prowess. On the other hand, one could argue that Carter-Vickers has been the club’s player of the season, performing at the top level consistently from the very beginning till now.
Thus, it would be a major coup on the part of Celtic if they were able to sign both this summer. At the same time, it would be a big blow to Postecoglou’s plans if either one or both of them left, and would leave the club in need of finding top class replacements.
