John Terry’s old comments about Celtic come to light

Heading into the Glasgow Derby, Celtic fans knew that anything was possible. There was reason to be confident, as they had beaten the Rangers 3-0, the last time the two met at Parkhead. But at the same time, they were coming off of a defeat against Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side in the Scottish Cup semi-final, when they got outplayed at Hampden Park despite the Ibrox side having played 120 minutes of football in midweek before that.

Thus, it is safe to say that this was a very difficult game to predict and either team could have walked out with a victory from Parkhead. Ultimately, neither did though, as it ended in a 1-1 draw. And it is safe to say that the result suits Celtic much more than the Rangers.

Out of all the things that the fans would have gone into the game expecting though, not many would have predicted John Terry being at Parkhead, in a Celtic scarf, supporting the Hoops.

But it appears that Terry’s affinity towards Celtic is not new. As reported by Metro, the former Chelsea captain had said after a friendly with the Hoops back in 2006:

‘I have always been a bit of a Celtic fan

‘There was only one reason I took to them. Like my brother Paul, I followed Scottish football as well as English football when I was young.

‘He supported Rangers and I wanted some atmosphere in the house so I went for Celtic.

‘You start doing that as a kid and find yourself looking at their results ever after.’

Considering the fact that Terry spent the majority of his career playing for Chelsea and established himself as one of the greatest defenders in the history of the game at Stamford Bridge, one would have been easily led to believe that he was a Rangers supporter.

It is no secret that Celtic and Chelsea supporters have a bit of a rivalry, with the majority of them siding with the Rangers, when it comes to the two Glasgow giants.

But it looks like Terry is not one of them and has been a Celtic fan since he was a kid. Another big name to add to the fanbase then.
