Cameron Carter-Vickers has been an absolute standout ever since moving to Celtic in the summer on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur. One could argue that he has been the Hoops’ best player this season and the club would surely be hoping to make his stay permanent. They do have an option to buy included in the deal but things could get complicated when it comes to signing the defender.
Carter-Vickers’ performances have drawn the attention of a number of clubs in the Premier League and suggestions are that there will be heavy competition for his signature in the summer. That is not good news for Celtic.
Earlier, there has been rumours Carter-Vickers and his camp viewed Celtic as the perfect place to continue his development as a player. But now, it looks like the situation might have changed a little.
As reported by 90min, the allure of regular football in the Premier League may prove too much for the player to turn down.
Celtic have suffered a surprise Carter-Vickers blow
It is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal for Celtic. If Carter-Vickers was to leave the club at the end of the season, it would be considered as a huge blow for the Hoops. The United States international has been their best defender and arguably most consistent player as well.
Defence had been viewed as an area of weakness for Celtic for quite some time but Carter-Vickers has played a key role in improving things at the back through the course of the campaign.
It is believed that the option to buy included in the deal for Carter-Vickers is a transfer fee around £6 million even though it could rise up to around £10 million with add-ons. Celtic are expected to be open to shelling out that kind of a figure for the defender though as he has become an incredibly important part of Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Ultimately though, it looks like it will come down to what the defender wants to do although his chances of staying on at Tottenham Hotspur are minute.
