With Celtic already winning the Scottish League Cup and running as the favourites for this season’s Premiership, it seems that Ange Postecoglou will end his first season at Parkhead as a major success, no matter the outcome of the title race.
In the upcoming summer transfer window, there are expected to be some alternations regarding the squad. The club should bring in new players while retaining those who have done well this season. On the other hand, those who do not seem to have much of a first-team future must be allowed to leave.
Rumours suggest that Celtic would love to sign Jota on a permanent basis from Benfica in the summer, with the Portuguese winger only on a season-long loan at the moment. Since arriving last summer, he has exceeded all expectations. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has 11 goals and 12 assists to his name from 36 appearances across all competitions for Celtic till now.
Other than the bare numbers, it is the way in which the 23-year-old brings everyone around him to life that amazes the admirers. His dazzling footwork and eye-catching skills stand out. His future at Parkhead remains up in the air though.
Jota warned against leaving Celtic in the summer
“He [Jota] has got to remember there are not many places who will love him the way he has been loved.
“He has got 60,000 people that sing his name.
“The only way he is leaving is for money. Nothing else.”
It is safe to say that Grant wants Jota to stay put in Glasgow, and so do the majority of the Celtic fanbase. However, it would be interesting to see how Jota’s future unravels. The lure of getting to play for his boyhood club, Benfica, might be strong as well.
On the other hand, there have been rumours about clubs down South taking an interest in the Portuguese winger as well on the back of his eye catching performances for Celtic. The Hoops do have an option to buy included in the loan deal though.
