Celtic managed to get a brilliant 2-1 win away at Ibrox against the Rangers. It was the Hoops’ first victory there since 2019 and a massive result for the Premiership title race. With six more league games to go, Ange Postecoglou’s side now have a commanding six point lead. And while there is still a long way to go, it is safe to say that they are firmly in the driver’s seat as of now.
It had been a poor start from Celtic as they conceded early, with Aaron Ramsey giving the Rangers the lead. But the Hoops equalised soon, through Tom Rogic. And then before half-time, Cameron Carter-Vickers scored the winner.
This defeat leaves the Rangers in a bad situation in the Scottish Premiership. And even their most optimistic fans would consider Celtic as the heavy favourites to lift the title from here on.
“It’s over. It’s finished. There’s no doubt about it.
“Celtic, on that form, we saw how good they are going forward but we’ve seen another side to them in terms of defending properly.
“I thought the two centre-backs, Starfelt and Carter-Vickers, were outstanding.
“There’s sometimes when you look at Celtic and they can be left two-vs-two or one-vs-one but today every single time Rangers got to the byline and tried to put a ball in, Starfelt was there to cut in.
“It was proper defending from both of them.
“It was going to be very difficult for Rangers to get back into the title race anyway but it’s done for me today.”
Boyd forced to make Celtic title admission after Rangers defeat
Celtic have to be careful here and cannot afford to be complacent. Six games is a long time, especially when there is one more Glasgow Derby left to be played as well.
Thus, there focus must be on what is coming. It is time to celebrate, but just three hard-fought points, and not the title.
Until the Premiership title race is over mathematically, the Hoops cannot let their foot off the gas. And with someone like Postecoglou in the managerial hot seat, it does feel like they will be told that.
It was a huge result for Celtic without any shadow of a doubt. But at the end of the day, it was just three points. And they need a few more wins before they can get their hands on the title. Remember, we never stop.
