Celtic handed massive blow by Kieran Tierney decision

Celtic have never quite been able to replace Kieran Tierney, who departed the club for Arsenal in the summer of 2019 in a £25 million transfer move, a record in Scottish football. Since then, the Hoops have brought in several left-backs, but nobody has been able to fill the gap. Over the past few seasons, Greg Taylor, Boli Bolingoli, Jonny Hayes, Diego Laxalt, Liam Scales and a few others have featured there.

On the other hand, Tierney has proven himself at Arsenal and become one of their most important players. There was a short spell this season when he was being left on the bench but now, he is firmly back in the starting XI.

His performances have caught the eye of European heavyweights, with Real Madrid being linked with a £50 million summer move. That, of course, would have handed Celtic a significant sell-on fee, if it indeed happened.

But as reported by football.london, Tierney remains committed to Arsenal and has no intention of leaving the club.

Celtic handed massive blow by Tierney decision

Arsenal have been in some terrific form recently, and appear to be heading in the right direction after a long time. Thus, it is understandable that Tierney would like to remain part of the project. But at the same time, there are not many players in the world, who would turn down the chance to move to Real Madrid.

If Tierney did complete a £50 million transfer move in the summer, it would potentially hand Celtic a welcome cash boost. But at the moment, it looks like it might not be on the table.

Celtic have a lot of things to be worried about before the summer arrives though, with the club in the middle of a tight Premiership title race with the Rangers and are also in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.
