Celtic handed boost by Rangers’ win vs Red Star Belgrade

Celtic have been disappointing in Europe in recent years. Their Europa Conference League elimination at the hands of Bodo/Glimt was a major disappointment as the Hoops were considered as the favourites going into the game. And there just appears to be a block that they cannot get past, when it comes to knockout phase games on the continental stage.

On the other hand, the Rangers have been complete opposites in recent years and their record in Europe has been impressive to be honest. It was just recently that they won a tie against Borussia Dortmund and have now gotten past Red Star Belgrade to book their place in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Their qualification to the next stage of the competition does hand Celtic a boost in the Scottish Cup though.

The UEFA Europa League quarter-finals are set to be played on 7th April (first leg) and 14th April (second leg). On the other hand, the Scottish Cup semi-final between Celtic and the Rangers will be played on 17th April, meaning that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side will have to potentially play in two high pressure games within 72 hours of each other.

Celtic handed Scottish Cup boost by Rangers’ win vs Red Star Belgrade

It remains to be seen how things turn out moving forward and it is safe to say that no matter what the situation is with the Rangers, Celtic will have to show up at Hampden Park at the top of their game if they are to go through to the Scottish Cup final.

That is not the only Glasgow Derby left to be played this season though. In fact, there are potentially two more important ones in the Premiership.

While winning the Scottish Cup would be a huge boost, it is safe to say that both Glasgow giants would be more concerned with winning the league title.
