Celtic finally make announcement about Glasgow Derby in Australia

When Celtic dropped the news about Ange Postecoglou’s Australian Homecoming, the focus was heavily on the manager taking the team Down Under. The club had skipped past mentioning the involvement of their Glasgow rivals on the tour as well, although it was an open secret. Rangers, on the other hand, had announced the friendly game between the two later this year almost immediately.

As we already know, Celtic will be playing in the Sydney Super Cup in November, kicking off first against A-League side Sydney FC on the17th of the month. The match will be one of the first major games to be played in the new Sydney Football Stadium.

Celtic have also now acknowledged that they are going to be facing the Rangers in a Glasgow Derby on November 20, although they did not go into any detail about the game.

On Celtic’s official website, the club wrote:

Celtic will also play in a Glasgow derby match on November 20, 2022.

Celtic finally announced Glasgow Derby in Australia

With no mention of their Glasgow rivals by name, it definitely feels like Celtic are trying to play the game down.

And it is not hard to see why, as it has caused a lot of controversy already. To be fair, both sets of fans are unhappy with it.

There seems to be more unhappiness surrounding Ibrox though as there have been rumours that the Rangers are getting half the fee that The Hoops will receive for the game. On top of that, most of the focus of the early promotions have been on Ange’s homecoming more than anything else.

That game is a long way away though. At the moment, the focus should be on the trio of upcoming Derby matches, which could have a massive impact on the fate of the Scottish Cup as well as the Scottish Premiership title, and consequently on the Champions League spot up for grabs.
