Celtic manager explains why Jota and Liel Abada were left out of squad

Celtic fans must have been very worried when they saw that both Jota and Liel Abada had been left out of the squad to take on Dundee United in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals. Ultimately, it did not prove to be vital as the Hoops walked out with a 3-0 victory from Tannadice Park but there is no question about the fact that the club will need those two back fit and in form as soon as possible.

It is safe to say that Jota and Liel Abada have been two of Celtic’s best players this season, and certainly amongst the most effective. And with Kyogo out with an injury since December, they are even more important to Ange Postecoglou’s side right now.

There appears to be some good news on this front as it looks like both Jota and Abada will be back in the mix soon.

As reported by The Scotsman, Postecoglou said on BBC Sportsound about the situation surrounding the Celtic duo:

“Jota got a knock in the last game but he’ll be alright for the weekend. Today [against Dundee United] just came too soon.

“Abada’s got an illness but he’ll be alright for the weekend as well. They’re the only two.”

Celtic handed important Jota and Abada boost

It is great to learn that neither Jota nor Abada has suffered a long-term problem and will be back available soon.

Jota had arguably been the best player in Scotland at one point of time this season but has found the going a bit tougher following the winter break and has not been able to rediscover that incredible form from earlier on in the season. But he remains a player capable of making things happen and an important part of Celtic’s playing XI.

On the other hand, while Abada has had his fair share of critics since arriving, there is no question about the fact that he has been very effective with both his goals and assists. And at just 20 years of age, one would expect him to get even better in the future. Thus, Celtic appear to have quite a player on their hands.
