Giorgos Giakoumakis delivers massive Celtic boost

A few months back, not many Celtic fans would have predicted how important Giorgos Giakoumakis would become to Ange Postecoglou’s team. The Greek striker had endured a difficult start to life in Scotland, spending several spells out on the sidelines due to injuries in the first half of the campaign. It is safe to say that that was far from ideal for the Hoops, even though Kyogo’s incredible form meant that they did not feel his absence.

Kyogo himself would pick up a long-term injury in December though, while Albian Ajeti was also out of action. Fortunately for Celtic, Giakoumakis came into his own after the winter break and showed why he had topped the Eredivisie scoring charts last season.

Recently though, Giakoumakis has had to spend more time on the sidelines, this time due to illness. And he only returned to action recently, coming on as a substitute in the game against Livingston.

Giakoumakis’ recent comments about his current condition is great news for the Hoops though. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, while speaking to Celtic TV, the striker said:

“I feel great. I’m feeling okay, like nothing happened. I just missed some training because I was sick. So I missed 4 or 5 training sessions. But now I’m back and back to reality.”

Celtic handed massive boost by Giakoumakis’ comments

It goes without saying that Giakoumakis staying fit and in form is very important for Celtic right now. Kyogo is still out injured and it looks like that will remain the case for a while. One also has to wonder how he will perform, when he returns, after spending such a long time out of action.

The club also have Daizen Maeda. The Japanese star only arrived in January though and has endured a difficult start to life at Celtic.

At the moment, he does not look like someone who can lead the line for the Hoops. Similar to Giakoumakis, Maeda might need some time to find his feet in Scottish football before we see his best.
