When rumours first broke that Celtic were looking to bring in Ange Postecoglou as manager, after a move for Eddie Howe failed to transpire, there were dual reactions to the news. The fans of the Hoops were mostly disappointed as the former Australia national team manager was a mostly an unknown in Europe despite his successes elsewhere. On the other hand, there were many Rangers fans who saw this as their chance to walk to a second straight league title.
Reality has been very different to say the least as Celtic have enjoyed a tremendous time under the management of Postecoglou till now. They have already lifted the Scottish League Cup and sit atop the Premiership table, with a three point lead over the Rangers.
One of the people who seemed amused by the news of Celtic looking to bring in Postecoglou was Ally McCoist. The clip of him and Alan Brazil went viral.
“I’ve got to say Ange Postecoglou has done a wonderful job so far at Celtic. I say that of course through gritted teeth but respect where it’s due.
“He’s done a great job there and has continued to do a great job, so we’ve really got a title race on our hands here in Scotland for the first time in a while. I think it’s going to go all the way to the wire.”
McCoist admits that Postecoglou has done a wonderful job at Celtic
McCoist is not the only person that Postecoglou has proven wrong since arriving at Celtic as manager in the summer. There are several others who had predicted that the club had made a big mistake by bringing him in.
Yes, there was certainly risk involved in the move as he did not have much experiencing managing in Europe and no experience at the top level in the European club level. But the risk has paid off and how.
Postecoglou’s job is far from over though. Celtic might be in the driver’s seat in the title race but there is still a long way to go, with 8 league games left to be played.
