Scott Brown has departed Celtic and joined Aberdeen in a player-coach role last summer. His former teammate, Stephen Glass, was the manager of the Dons at that point and the situation was ideal for the former Hoops captain to take his first steps in coaching. It is safe to say that things have not turned out as he would have envisioned though.
Aberdeen have struggled this season and ended up showing Glass the exit door recently. It goes without saying that that raised questions about Brown’s place at the Pittodrie Stadium and it was not a huge surprise when he left the club this week.
It is unclear what Brown will do next although there have been suggestions that his playing career is over and he will look to focus on coaching moving forward.
Naturally, rumours have linked him with a return to Celtic. And Ange Postecoglou has given his take on the situation. As reported by Sky Sports, the manager said:
“From my perspective, I don’t think anyone should be in any doubt that there will always be an open door here for Scott Brown.
“The guy is one of the legends of this football club and will go down as one of the greatest ever.
“In terms of what he wants to do with his future, he’s best placed to answer that. He’s obviously made a decision right now and then after that, it’s up to him.”
Postecoglou reacts to Brown to Celtic return rumour
Thus, it looks like the Parkhead door is pretty much open if Brown chooses to return to Celtic anytime in the near future.
At this point of time, it is hard to see a gap for him in the first-team, both in a player role and a coaching capacity. Thus, he might be better placed going somewhere else at this moment.
Rumours have suggested that he could reunite with former Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, at Leicester City. Although, it remains to be seen whether such a move ends up transpiring anytime soon.
Whatever maybe the case and no matter what Brown decides to do next in his career, we can only wish him the best of luck.
