Going into the game, a lot of Celtic fans had expected the club to drop points against Livingston when the two sides faced each other at the Tony Macaroni Arena. On one hand, Livi had been in great form and were sitting at fourth ahead of the match, having not lost in five league games. On the other hand, the Hoops’ record away to the Lions was a cause for concern as well.
Even earlier this season, Ange Postecoglou’s side had lost 1-0 away at the Tony Macaroni Arena. And they could only manage a goalless draw against Livingston in the reverse fixture at Parkhead.
But they made no mistake this time around and came out of the game with a comfortable 3-1 win against Livingston. This was a huge result for not just the confidence of the Celtic players, but a boost in the title race as well.
While there might be eight league games still to be played, Ayo Obileye believes that Celtic will remain on top if they keep doing what they did at the weekend. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the Livingston star told the Scottish Daily Express [print edition, 08/03, page 58]:
“I can’t really say in terms of who will win between them and Rangers. But right now Celtic are on top.
“If they keep doing what they did at the weekend, they’ll stay on top.”
Livingston star makes huge Celtic title prediction
There is no question about the fact that Celtic have shown tremendous improvement over the course of the season, under the management of Postecoglou.
Has it been enough to overturn a 25-point gap from last season and win back the Premiership title from the Rangers? We will have to wait a bit longer to get the answer to that question.
However this season may end, it should be considered as a major success for Celtic though. Most people had expected this to be a transitional season, but they have already won the Scottish League Cup and have put up a brilliant title challenge as well, currently sitting 3 points ahead of the Rangers.
