Celtic managed to take a huge step in the right direction in the ongoing title race, by getting all three points against Livingston away at the Tony Macaroni Arena. With how much the Hoops have struggled at the ground, this was a huge result for them to say the least and should give them a lot of confidence moving forward. As things stand, they will maintain their 3 point lead over the Rangers.
Ange Postecoglou’s side had lost the previous fixture away at Livingston 1-0, in what was one of the most uninspiring performances of their season.
Thus, this result just goes on to show how far this team has come and how much they have improved over Postecoglou’s time as the manager of the club.
Livingston manager, David Martindale, was not happy with a few of the decisions that the referee, Nick Walsh, made on the day but ultimately, he admitted that Celtic were deserved winners. As reported by The Scotsman, the manager said:
“I’m genuinely not blaming Nick. He’s not the reason we got beat. We got beat because Celtic were better than us, pure and simple.”
Martindale admits that Celtic were better than Livingston on the day
It was not an easy match for Celtic by any stretch of the imagination. Livingston are a team that they have struggled with in the first place. They had already lost 1-0 away to them earlier on in the season. And could only manage a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture at Parkhead.
On top of that, coming into the game, Martindale’s side were in terrific form. They were sitting at fourth in the Premiership table and had not lost a game in their previous five league games.
The line up that Postecoglou decided to field on the day had raised a lot of questions as well. But ultimately, it all worked out for the Hoops on the day and they walked out with a comfortable 3-1 win. This was a huge result in the title race.
