Celtic transfer news: Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo agrees to join FC Ufa – Sources

Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo has agreed a deal to join FC Ufa this month, Football Insider understands.

This site broke the news last Thursday (17 February) that the left-back, 26, was in talks over a loan move to the Russian Premier League side.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that FC Ufa are confident of completing a move for Bolingoli-Mbombo in the next 24 hours before the transfer window in Russia closes.

The Scottish giants have given the green light to Bolingoli-Mbombo securing a move this month outside of the main transfer window.

He is out of contract at the Hoops in the summer of 2023 and has slipped to the fringes of the team.

Bolingoli-Mbombo joined Celtic from Club Brugge in July 2019 for a fee of around £3million but has struggled to build on an encouraging start to his career in Scotland.

The Belgian has made just two appearances this season, with his last outing coming in the win at Motherwell in October.

On 23 October, Celtic icon Frank McAvennie told Football Insider Bolingoli-Mbombo should start more games as he was the best option his former side had at the time.

But Ange Postecoglou has not shared that opinion and has instead preferred the likes of Josip Juranovic – mainly a right-back – and Greg Taylor at left-back.

Bolingoli-Mbombo has won two Scottish Premiership titles during his time in Glasgow but has failed to establish himself as a key player.

During his first season at the club, he only started 14 league games after falling out of favour during the second half of the season.

He has only made 31 appearances for the Glasgow giants but still has two Premiership titles to his name.

Last season he was loaned to İstanbul Başakşehir and made 18 appearances in all competitions.
