Celtic have been on a great run of results and that continued as they picked up a 4-0 win over Raith Rovers in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. Liam Scales, Giorgos Giakoumakis, Daizen Maeda and Nir Bitton got their names on the scoresheet on the day. But the performance, especially in the first half, left a lot to be desired and Ange Postecoglou did not seem to be happy with it.
Celtic did not play with the same intensity as they have in most games under Postecoglou. And while most managers might have been happy enough to cruise to a 4-0 victory in a Scottish Cup game, it was not the case for him.
Celtic did improve in the second half though and ended up adding three goals to the one that they had scored in the first 45 minutes.
“There were mixed emotions as we didn’t quite get to our levels in the first half. We were much better in the second half and it’s good to progress in the competition.
“But it says the standards are very high here. The scoreline looked good but the performance wasn’t where it needed to be.
“The manager got that message across it wasn’t good enough and you saw the difference in the second half.”
He also added:
“He wants us on top of our game no matter who we are playing against – and rightly so.
“Does he have his moments? I’m not sure if I can say!
“It’s obviously frustrating for him when we are not getting to the levels we know we can.
“He has to get his point across, like every manager does.”
Celtic have a huge game coming up against Bodo/Glimt
One of the reasons why Celtic might not have been at the top of their game on this occasion is the fact that they have a huge game coming up in midweek against Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
The Norwegian champions are a great team and it will be difficult for Celtic to beat them over two legs, especially with a tough trip to Norway to navigate through in the second leg.
But with the kind of football that Celtic have been playing in recent times, they must be confident of their chances against any team.
They recently got a dominant 3-0 win over the Rangers and also have a 3-2 win over Real Betis, who currently sit at third in La Liga, under their belt this season as well. The Hoops were also minutes away from beating Bayer Leverkusen away in Germany.
