A lot is riding on the Glasgow Derby at Parkhead between Celtic and the Rangers this week. While the gap between the two clubs might have been six points coming out of the winter break, it stands at just two right now. As a result, if Ange Postecoglou’s are able to get a win, they will go top of the Premiership table after a long time. And while the target is to finish there, it would be a massive boost for them and a blow for their rivals nonetheless.
Celtic do appear to be the team in form at the moment, while the Rangers have had their fair share of struggles in recent times.
They have made a couple of big additions though, bringing in Manchester United’s Amad and Juventus’ Aaron Ramsey on loan late in the January transfer window. Not many would have expected either of those moves to happen.
While we might be heading into one of the most important Glasgow Derbies in a long time, the managers of the two clubs have had nothing but positive things to say about each other. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, while talking to Sky Sports, Giovanni van Bronckhorst said about Postecoglou:
“I have much respect for him. I think it’s mutual. We met each other a couple of times at Celtic and it was always nice speaking to him. I think it’s good to have the rivalry but also the respect for each other as coaches. We are both professional.”
Van Bronckhorst makes admission about Celtic manager
Postecoglou has spoken positively in the past about his encounters with Van Bronckhorst as well, and it is safe to say that both managers have a lot of respect for each other.
When their teams meet at Parkhead on Wednesday though, both are expected to be doing their best to make sure that their team comes out with three points.
A win for Celtic will completely open things up in the Premiership title race, but their recent record against the Rangers is very worrying and hopefully they will be able to get past that.
