Dundee United star makes big claim before Celtic game

With four points between the two Glasgow sides, every game is important for Celtic moving forward if they are to catch up with the Rangers in the Premiership race. There is quite a lot of football left to be played in the league this season though, including a trio of Glasgow Derbies, and it is not a lead that cannot be overturned. It does look like things could go down to the wire though.

Celtic and the Rangers are set to meet at Parkhead on February 2, in the first of those three remaining Glasgow Derbies. But before that, the Hoops will be hoping to get all three points against Dundee United.

Dundee United were going through a rough patch of form but have gotten a bit of momentum back on their side now after winning back-to-back games.

One man who a lot of eyes will be on when the two sides meet is Calum Butcher. The Dundee United player ended up getting a three-match ban for a tackle on David Turnbull last month. He is not looking to change his style of play though. As reported by The Scottish Sun, he said:

“Will I change? It’s how I play —  on the edge of the game.

“I don’t want red cards because it’s not ideal, but it’s just the way I play and always has been.

“I was disappointed with how the Celtic one was dealt with on the back of my previous red.

“But I won’t change how I play the game. It is how I play and it’s when I’m at my best.

“If I change, you won’t get the real Calum Butcher.”

Butcher makes big claim before facing Celtic

The three-match ban was not the first time that Butcher had gotten in disciplinary trouble this season though. In November, he had been sent off in Dundee United’s match against Aberdeen.

He is not expected to playing against Turnbull this weekend though as the Celtic star is currently out injured, after being forced off the pitch in the Scottish League Cup final against Hibernian.

Celtic have their fair share of problems going into the game with key players like Kyogo, Daizen Maeda, Tom Rogic, Callum McGregor and a few others also unavailable at this point of time. Ange Postecoglou’s side will know though that they need three points if they are to keep up with the Rangers.
