Former Rangers player’s big claim about Celtic star’s injury

Celtic’s injury list disappointedly grew once again after the Scottish Cup win against Alloa Athletic with one of the names being that of Yosuke Ideguchi. But former Rangers player, Richard Foster, has made a big claim about how and why the Japanese star was injured and did not even believe that it was a red card challenge.

Ideguchi had to get treatment on the pitch after a rough tackle on him by Alloa Athletic’s Mouhamed Niang. The challenge does not look any better on being viewed on replays and could have caused serious injury for sure.

Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou, has even admitted that the player could be out for a little while, when speaking to Celtic TV. We’ll have to wait and see how that turns out.

Even though it’s from a former Rangers player, Foster’s comments about the situation are still very interesting. As reported by the Daily Record, he said on BBC Sportscene:

“I don’t think it is (a sending off offence). It’s a strong tackle and he wins the ball.

“The main thing is, and what I got taught as a youngster, is that if you go in for a 50-50 you’ve got to go in at the same speed and intensity as the other player.

“Ideguchi actually tries to pull out of it so he’s slowing himself down and Mouhamed Niang is coming right through the ball.

“It’s a strong, strong tackle but it would have been very harsh. If the two players had gone in together at the same (speed) you would have seen an old fashioned 50-50 tackle and nobody would have got hurt.

“But by slowing himself down he allows himself to be on the end a very, very sore one.”

Foster makes big claim about Celtic star’s injury

It is almost bizarre to read as it is the duty of the player going into the tackle has to remain in control and to not endanger the safety and well being of his opponent. Both players going in recklessly for the ball does not seem to any kind of solution to the problem. Well, at the end of the day it is an opinion, but Foster is entitled to have one.

That is the sort of tackle that leads to red cards being produced on a regular basis though and it was a huge surprise when the referee did not bring one out on this occasion.

Hopefully it’s not a serious injury, with Callum McGregor looking to be out for a few weeks at least. Thus, Celtic will be hoping to have Ideguchi back in action as soon as possible.
