Celtic appear to be closing in on their fifth signing of the January transfer window in the form of MK Dons’ Matt O’Riley. The Hoops had already signed Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi and Johnny Kenny this month, and now, a move to bring the 21-year-old midfielder to Parkhead from the League One side does not seem far away either. But it looks like the club have other players in their sights as well.
There is a feeling that Celtic could do with another addition in their forward ranks with the likes of James Forrest, Mikey Johnston and Giorgos Giakoumakis all struggling with a series of injuries for some time now.
One player that they have been linked with recently is Shabab Al Ahli’s Mehdi Ghayedi. The 23-year-old has been impressive at the domestic level as well as in the AFC Champions League over the years and appears to have caught the attention of Celtic.
As reported by IRNA, Shabab Al Ahli are not keen on parting ways with Ghayedi before the end of the season but Celtic are believed to be ready to pay a transfer fee of more than £3.5 million for the Iranian international star.
Celtic seem to be interested in the international star
It appears that Celtic hold an interest in Ghayedi. It is safe to say that he is very highly-rated, and is capable of playing on the wings as well as up front as a second striker.
It has only been around half a year since he has joined Shabab Al Ahli and to be honest, he has not been able to match expectations at the club till now.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists in 15 appearances for Shabab Al Ahli till now.
But there is no question about Ghayedi’s talent or potential, and he has shown what he is capable of in the past. Now, it will be interesting to see whether Celtic do end up making a move for the youngster.
