It is what you would normally expect from a Celtic team but after last season’s failure to win a single piece of silverware it was reassuring to hear it from a player that they want more trophies and aren’t satisfied with winning just the Scottish League Cup. The Hoops are four points behind the Rangers in the Premiership while the Scottish Cup is still up for grabs as well. And can they make a deep run in the UEFA Europa Conference League?
The winter break, some good transfer signings in January and their recent Scottish League Cup triumph at Hampden Parkhead in December means that there is confident mood around the club at this point of time.
One player who is in his first season at Celtic is Carl Starfelt, having joined only in the summer. He is not the only one though as the squad underwent quite a transformation over the summer and then in January.
But Starfelt has already had a taste of what it feels like to win a trophy for Celtic and he made no secret that he, as well as the other players, are hungry for more. As reported by STV News, the defender said:
“One of the reasons many players come to this club is in the hope of winning stuff.
“We’ve won our first trophy here so of course we are hungry for more. It’s the best feeling to win games but especially to win trophies.
“We will do our best to keep doing that.”
Celtic appear to be targeting more silverware this season
Starfelt is still settling into Scottish football, striking up new partnerships on the pitch and getting to grips with the way Postecoglou wants the team to play. There have been some shaky moments for him along the way, but he was back on top form against Hibernian earlier this week, putting in an impressive performance.
Cup football is back for Celtic once again with a trip on Saturday to Alloa Athletic for a Scottish Cup fourth round tie.
With players again needing game time after the winter break and some needing to get familiar with their new teammates, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of a line up Postecoglou puts out against Alloa Athletic.
