Leigh Griffiths has divided the opinion of the Celtic fans for a long time. On top of his game, he is a brilliant player. All of us know that. But then, he has not been at his best for a long time now, except for a brief spell in the second half of the 2019/20 campaign. As a result, most expected the Scottish striker’s time at Parkhead to be coming to an end soon, one way or the other.
Griffiths had been surprisingly handed a one-year contract extension by Celtic earlier in the summer but then sent on loan to Dundee FC.
Even there, he has struggled and there have been suggestions that the Premiership club were looking to send him back to Parkhead this January. Amidst all this, rumours have emerged that Celtic have decided to cancel Griffiths’ contract early.
That would bring an end to his long run at Celtic. But now, there already appears to be an unexpected twist in Griffiths’ future.
Griffiths’ future takes unexpected twist after Celtic decision
As reported by The Herald, James McPake is now keen on retaining Griffiths until the end of the season. That means that they could be looking to land him on a permanent deal.
If that turned out to be the case, it would certainly be an interesting turn of events for sure. It remains to be seen how things unfold in the Griffiths saga over the coming weeks.
One thing that must be said though is that he is still 31 years of age and if he can rediscover his best form, Griffiths would still be capable of being a starter for the majority of clubs in Scotland.
Unfortunately though, there are big question marks over whether Griffiths will be able to do that anytime soon, if ever again in his career.
