Celtic have already completed three signings in this January transfer window, bringing in Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi. All three are expected to contribute to Ange Postecoglou’s side and help with their squad depth, which has proven to the Hoops’ Achilles’ heel this season till now. The club are not expected to stop when it comes to incomings though.
It is believed that Johnny Kenny is set to arrive at Celtic in the coming days after the club were able to agree a deal with Sligo Rovers. The transfer fee is set to be an initial €150,000 plus add-ons.
The 18-year-old Irish striker is very highly-rated and has already made quite an impression at the senior level. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 12 goals and provided 3 assists in 34 appearances for Sligo Rovers till now.
Thus, there is no question that he is one to watch out for the future. But also, one has to admit that Kenny won’t probably make much of an impact on the first-team immediately.
Celtic could send out new signing on loan in January
As reported by Independent.ie, there is a possibility that Celtic could send Kenny out on loan before the January transfer window closes although nothing is agreed in that regard.
If or when the move for Kenny goes through, it must be considered as a major coup for the club. But at the same time, the most important step after that would be make sure that he has the right path available to him in order to break into the first-team picture at Celtic eventually.
And the best option for that might be send him out on loan to a club where he will get regular playing time and the chance to develop. Even sending him back to Sligo Rovers might not be a bad idea.
