Celtic could be handed transfer blow by Steven Gerrard

One does not need to go into the history between Celtic and Steven Gerrard, the former manager of the Rangers. It is well documented. And while the Hoops might have dominated for the majority of his time in Scottish football, he did manage to stop the club from winning a historic tenth straight league title. Now, could he hand Ange Postecoglou’s side a transfer blow even after having departed Ibrox?

Similar to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic exit, Gerrard left the Rangers in the middle of the campaign and returned to the Premier League. He is currently the manager of Aston Villa, where he has enjoyed a decent start.

And now, it looks like the Premier League side have their eyes on a player who has been linked with Celtic for years.

As reported by the Daily Record, Gerrard is weighing up a move for Aaron Hickey, who has earned rave reviews for his performances for Bologna, and AC Milan are also believed to have an eye on the young Scottish full-back.

Celtic have been linked with a move for Hickey for a long time

Hickey was actually a part of Celtic’s youth set up but broke into senior football with Hearts. It is there that he caught the attention of clubs around Europe.

Even back then Celtic were linked with a move for the youngster but ultimately, he would go on to join Bologna. And it is safe to say that the move has worked out for Hickey.

He is already a regular for the Serie A side and it is easy to forget that he is still just 19 years of age. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 19 appearances and scored 4 goals this season.

With the amount of interest in his signature right now, it does feel very difficult for Celtic to bring him to Parkhead at this point of time.
