Celtic handed major injury blow for St Johnstone match

Celtic have very little room for error left after dropping a couple of points against St Mirren, when they were expected to win the game comfortably. The opposition had several players missing and could barely put out a team. Yet, they managed to hold on for a 0-0 draw in what was arguably the most uninspiring performance from the Hoops in the Ange Postecoglou era. As a result, they are now six points behind the Rangers in the Premiership table.

That is a significant gap considering how tight the title race has appeared and as a result, the game against St Johnstone is now even more important for Celtic.

Anything other than a win and they will be going into the winter break on a huge low. Amidst all this, they have been handed a major injury blow as well.

In the game against St Mirren, Postecoglou could not name a very strong Celtic starting XI with several players unavailable and did not have a wealth of options on the bench either. And at the moment, it look unsure whether anyone will be back for the game against St Johnstone either. As reported by the Glasgow Times, the manager said:

“Not sure. We’ll see, it’s unlikely that anyone will definitely come back into it.

“There’s a couple who might be close but we’ll see over the next couple of days how they’re recover.”

It is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal for Celtic at the moment as they are missing several important players right now.

The fact that Postecoglou brought on Liam Shaw, Greg Taylor and Josip Juranovic while chasing a goal against St Mirren just goes on to show the lack of options at the club at the present moment.

January will provide them a great opportunity to take care of this issue by making additions to the squad but before that, they will be hoping to get a positive result against St Johnstone.
