Ange Postecoglou has made quite an impression ever since arriving as the Celtic manager this summer. When the links first emerged, it is safe to say that a lot of fans were not sure about him. While he had enjoyed considerable success in both Australia and Japan at club level, as well as with the Australian national team, he had very little experience of managing in Europe.
Thus, some doubt about the appointment was natural and expected. It is safe to say though that Postecoglou has come in and quickly proven himself, becoming a fan favourite in the process of doing so.
Postecoglou has got Celtic back to winning ways and it does look like they are ready to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title this season. They are also set to play in the League Cup final on Sunday, which will be the manager’s chance to win his first piece of silverware at European club level.
What has been most interesting though is his philosophy towards football as a whole, which is pretty unique to say the least. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, while speaking on Celtic’s official YouTube channel, he revealed what he wants from his signings:
“The one thing I figured out early in my managerial career is that you don’t really sign players, you sign people. Talent is one thing, but their personality, character, all those other things are just as equally important.
“Particularly for the way I want to play.
“There’s a lot of talented players around the world, but what I try to do is bring people with the talent, skills into this environment, that will fit into what we’re trying to create. It’s a lot easier to build team spirit then, as we have, when all the guys are sort like-minded in that way. They’re ambitious, they’ve got a bit of courage, a bit about them that they want to try something different.
“It’s not exact science, but you can identify that by having conversations with the players you want to bring in. For me, that’s vitally important.”
Celtic fans will be excited with the January transfer window coming up
Celtic have pulled off some tremendous transfer moves since the arrival of Postecoglou as manager.
Kyogo and Jota have both proven to be talismans for the club, while Carl Starfelt, Josip Juranovic and Cameron Carter-Vickers have solidified their defence. Liel Abada has very impressive potential and it will be interesting to see how he develops moving forward. While Joe Hart has proven to be a transfer masterstroke.
The January transfer window is approaching fast and the Hoops are expected to make a splash this time around as it is pretty clear that they need to strengthen the squad further. And it is believed that they are getting closer to deals for Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi.
