Journalist rubbishes £10 million Celtic transfer rumour

As we quickly head towards the January transfer window, it is safe to say that rumours will continue to crop up surrounding Celtic over the coming weeks. The Hoops are expected to have a big one this time around, as it is clear that they need to add depth to Ange Postecoglou’s squad if they are to put up a title challenge against the Rangers. Injuries have been their Achilles’ heel till now.

The rumours have not just cropped up about potential new signings though. But players who are already at the club as well.

Celtic enjoyed a solid summer transfer window this time around when it comes to loans. Both Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers arrived till the end of the season with options to buy included in their deals. And both of them have established themselves as regular starters in Postecoglou’s starting XI.

Some recent rumours had suggested though that the option to buy in Carter-Vickers’ deal was £10 million. That kind of a transfer fee would make him the most expensive signing in Celtic history. But now, it looks like it is not that much. Anthony Joseph tweeted out:

Journalist rubbishes Celtic transfer rumour surrounding Carter-Vickers

While the option to buy does not appear to be £10 million, it is still significant. And it remains to be seen if Celtic do decide to try to sign him on a permanent basis.

Carter-Vickers has been quite impressive during his time at Parkhead and established himself in the heart of Celtic’s defence since he arrived in the summer.

Thus, if the club did not end up signing him, they would have to go out and sign another centre-back instead. And with Christopher Jullien’s injury history, and Stephen Welsh not quite looking ready yet to be a regular in the starting XI yet, the Hoops must try to sign Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis if they can.
