Celtic might very well have been a bit worried coming into the game against Dundee United. The Hoops had suffered three big injuries in the previous game to Jota, Anthony Ralston and Stephen Welsh. The Hoops did not have a big squad to pick from in the first place and this must only have multiplied Ange Postecoglou’s worries.
The injuries could not have come at a worse time either as the Hoops enter the busiest part of the footballing calendar, with games set to come thick and fast.
Fortunately, they were able to get past the first test with flying colours. Celtic got a big 3-0 away win against Dundee United in order to keep up the pressure on the Rangers in the Premiership title race.
And there were some unlikely scorers on this occasion. Tom Rogic, David Turnbull and Liam Scales got on the scoresheet on this occasion. Now, what is important is that the Hoops continue to build on this momentum and keep grinding out results.
Dundee United vs Celtic: 3 things we learned from big win
Here are three things we learned from Celtic’s big away win against Dundee United, despite the absence of the likes of Jota and Ralston:
Celtic handed double left-back boost in the same game
Left-back has been an area of worry for Celtic for a while now. Ever since Kieran Tierney left to join Arsenal in 2019, several players have featured there but nobody has quite been able to nail down the spot.
Postecoglou had found a short-term solution recently by playing Josip Juranovic at left-back while playing Ralston at right-back.
But with Ralston picking up an injury against Hearts, he had to look for a different solution. Fortunately, Greg Taylor was fit enough to return from a long-term injury.
Then, Scales came off the bench to find the back of the net. And while that is not expected to put him into immediate consideration for a starter spot, it might earn him some regular minutes going forward.
