When Celtic signed Josip Juranovic from Legia Warsaw in the summer, many fans immediately considered it as a masterstroke on the part of the club. The Croatian international was expected to come in and immediately become a regular in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI. And he has done exactly that, but none in the position that one would have expected.
Juranovic is at the moment the starting left-back at Celtic while Anthony Ralston is featuring at right-back. And to be honest, both are doing quite well in their roles, and after a long time, the Hoops appear to have a consistent full-back duo.
But one cannot help but feel that playing at left-back is not great for Juranovic going forward. He was never known for playing there before arriving at Celtic and has always been a natural right-sided player.
Thus, many fans expect the Croatian to eventually move to the other side of the pitch. Juranovic himself seems delighted with the time that he is having at Parkhead though. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, he told Celtic TV:
“[It’s going] really well. The city is beautiful, the people are great and here at the club everything is wonderful. It’s really the best time of my life because we are playing well, we’re like a family and we support each other.”
Juranovic makes brilliant claim about his time at Celtic
Juranovic is already one of the most important parts of Postecoglou’s team and he is not even playing in his natural position yet.
But with the options available at Celtic, at the moment, this might be the best way to go forward. Both Juranovic and Ralston are playing consistent football right now. The same cannot be said about any other left-back at Parkhead.
In fact, left-back has been a position of worry for Celtic for quite some time and they might even end up strengthening there in the upcoming January transfer window. Since Kieran Tierney departed for Arsenal in the summer of 2019, several players have featured there for the Hoops but nobody has been able to nail down the spot.
