Celtic are expected to make some signings in the January transfer window in order to strengthen Ange Postecoglou’s squad, with hopes being high that they can challenge for the Premiership title this season. And one area that they might need more options in is striker. Kyogo has been brilliant since coming in, but beyond him, the Hoops do not seem to have a backup option who has been finding the back of the net.
Giorgos Giakoumakis has appeared to be the man behind Kyogo in the pecking order in recent times. But the Greek striker has not got it going since arriving at Parkhead, struggling with both form and fitness.
On the other hand, Albian Ajeti has been linked with a Celtic exit in January. And if that was to happen, Celtic would definitely do with more options up top.
The club have been linked with Daizen Maeda as a potential option. But he is not an out-and-out striker. And considering Giakoumakis’ struggles to remain fit for a considerable length of time, signing another striker might not be a bad idea for Celtic.
Celtic could pull off transfer masterstroke by signing Kasper Junker
The rumours linking Junker to Celtic have returned recently. And he is definitely someone who could prove to be a great option if the club decided to make a move for him.
The 27-year-old was not a prolific goalscorer for the first several years of his career but has managed to completely turn things around in the past few seasons.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 28 goals in 26 appearances for Bodo/Glimt last season. And this time around, he has proven himself for Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan, scoring 16 goals in 29 appearances.
Urawa Red Diamonds are believed to have signed him for a transfer fee around £1.9 million earlier this year and if Celtic can sign him for something similar, it has the potential to be a major transfer masterstroke.
