Hibernian release statement after SPFL’s Celtic decision

Celtic managed to get out of Hampden Park with a 1-0 victory over St Johnstone to book their place in the Scottish League Cup final. And on the following day, Hibernian got a convincing 3-1 win vs the Rangers to make it to the final as well. Thus, both sets of fans will have their calendars marked for next month’s big game with the first trophy of the season up for grabs.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are the team in form at the moment having won eight of their previous nine games across all competitions. On the other hand, Hibernian had struggled in recent games, which made their incredible performance against the Rangers a bit of a surprise.

A lot can change before the final though, with quite some time left to go before the game in December.

Celtic already know that they will have one major advantage on the day though as they have been handed the majority of the ticket allocation. Hibernian have released a statement following SPFL’s decision. The club said on their official website:

As a club, we had a number of long and intense discussions with the SPFL fighting for an even split of tickets with Celtic for the Premier Sports Cup Final at Hampden Park, knowing our history of selling out tickets for cup finals and for sporting integrity. However, they have come to the decision that we will have an allocation of approximately 17,500 tickets for the match. A decision that we are incredibly frustrated about. We made our thoughts very clear.

While one can understand the call for there to be an even allocation of tickets for Cup finals, Celtic were always expected to get the majority of them. Ultimately, the Hoops’ allocation of the tickets is expected to sell out quickly.

Hibernian have some positive news as well though as the timing of the game was shifted in order to make it easier for their fans to travel to and from Hampden Park.

Whatever maybe the situation regarding these things, at the end of the day, this promises to be a great game between two great sides.

Celtic have the chance to get the Postecoglou Era to a brilliant start by winning the first trophy that is available this season, just months after his arrival as manager.
