Celtic fans react as Rangers crash out of League Cup

Celtic have learned the identity of their Scottish League Cup final opponents. Hibernian handed the Rangers a convincing defeat and will now meet Ange Postecoglou’s side at Hampden Park next month. It is safe to say that the result was a bit unexpected considering the form that the Hibs had been in coming into the game but a Martin Boyle hattrick was enough to get them the big win.

For the Rangers, more questions will be raised after they have not had the start to the season that their fans would have expected.

And with Celtic picking up some serious momentum in recent weeks, things could get interesting soon, especially with the Hoops expected to strengthen their squad further in the upcoming January transfer window, with players like Daizen Maeda, Aaron Mooy, Reo Hatate and others being linked with the club.

Celtic fans did react to the Rangers crashing out of the League Cup though, as one would expect:

Celtic will face Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup final next month

For Celtic, this result does not change much. The aim should be on getting the first trophy of the season home when they go to Hampden Park next month. It does not matter which club it is against.

The focus now must shift towards other competitions though as that game is quite a bit away at the moment. Celtic will next face a tough away trip to Germany to face Bayer Leverkusen and a lot will be hanging on that game.

Celtic are guaranteed to play European football beyond the group stage this season, whether it is in the Europa League or the Europa Conference League. This upcoming game could end up decided where that is though.

If Postecoglou’s side lose to Bayer Leverkusen and Real Betis beat Ferencvaros, then the Hoops will go into the Europa Conference League when the group stage is over.
