This January promises to be one of the most exciting for Celtic in a long time. While Ange Postecoglou’s side have done a great job over the past month or so, there is no question that the Hoops need more depth if they are to challenge for the Premiership title over the long season. Thus, there are high expectations that the club will make a few important additions when the transfer window reopens.
One area that Celtic could certainly do with more options in is up front. Kyogo has been absolutely brilliant since coming in, but other than him, they do not have a striker in form at the moment.
Giorgos Giakoumakis might have topped the Eredivisie scoring charts last season but he has struggled with both form and fitness since arriving at Parkhead. On the other hand, Albian Ajeti has been linked with a move away from the club this January, after struggling to find his feet since arriving in the summer of 2020.
Amidst all this, John Hartson has tipped the club to complete a move for Daizen Maeda, whose name appeared to slip his mind. While speaking on Go Radio and as reported by the Daily Record, the former Celtic star said:
“There’s talk about another Japanese striker coming in. I wouldn’t be surprised if they got that one over the line in January.”
Hartson tips Celtic to complete Maeda move in January
While Hartson did not name Maeda, it feels pretty clear that he was talking about him. He is the only Japanese striker who has linked with a move to Celtic in recent times.
Maeda has played under the management of Postecoglou in the past, during their time together at Yokohama F. Marinos. And rumours about a reunion at Parkhead just refuse to go away.
Possessing incredible pace, stamina, intelligent movement in the opposition box, the ability to finish with both his feet and an understanding of Postecoglou’s style of football already, Maeda could be the perfect signing for Celtic in January.
