Eddie Howe finally breaks silence on failed Celtic move

Eddie Howe has finally broken his silence surrounding the failed Celtic move in the summer, after being appointed the Newcastle United manager. Not too long ago, most people expected him to be in the Parkhead dugout this season but things did not quite work out. It looks like it might not have been as last minute as was once thought.

While his move to Celtic did not happen in the summer, one has to admit that things worked out quite well for Howe ultimately. Now he finds himself at the centre of one of the most exciting projects in world football right now, Newcastle United.

Following the club’s recent takeover, many expect Newcastle United to enjoy a rise similar to what Manchester City did over a decade ago.

And following his appointment as the Magpie’s new manager, Howe has decided to break his silence regarding the failed Celtic saga in the summer. As reported by the Daily Record, the new Newcastle United manager said:

“The problem is that I didn’t change my mind at the last minute.

“I have not spoken publicly on it because there have been a lot of things said that have been totally untrue.

“I couldn’t get my backroom team together to go to Celtic for a host of different reasons.

“I didn’t want to take a job of such size, and knowing the job needing to be done, on my own.

“I knew what was needed. So there was no change of mind, I was open and honest with everyone connected with the club.

“Celtic were absolutely brilliant and I was open and honest all the way through. No problems with Celtic whatsoever.”

That certainly gives one a much better view at why things did not work out and the move to Celtic did not happen. In fact, it paints Howe in a very positive light. He did not want to take a job when he did not feel that he was in the best position to succeed.

That certainly deserves respect. It would not have helped anyone if he had taken the job regardless and it was not a success.

And while it turned out well for him in the end, it turned out very well for Celtic as well. At the moment, Ange Postecoglou is the manager of the club and he has done a brilliant job till now, especially considering the cards that he has been dealt.
