Celtic: 3 players who can solve Carl Starfelt problem

It is safe to say that Celtic have a problem on their hands with Carl Starfelt picking up an injury in the recent Scottish Premiership game against Livingston. The Swedish international has become a huge part of Ange Postecoglou’s side, who will need to find a way to fill in during his absence. There are three players who can do that.

Starfelt did not enjoy a great start to his life at Celtic but had very much come into his own recently. He appeared to be improving with every passing game and was putting in solid performances at the back consistently.

Thus, he could potentially end up being a huge miss for Celtic and one can only hope that they are able to fill in during his absence.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is expected to retain his place in the side. Who will partner him moving forward though?

3 Celtic players who can fill in for Starfelt

Here are thee Celtic players who can fill in for Starfelt and solve the problem in the heart of their defence amid the Swedish international’s absence:

Stephen Welsh

Coming into the season, many fans would have expected Stephen Welsh to be a first-choice centre-back in Postecoglou’s side. And for quite a while it appeared that that was the direction that Celtic were heading in.

Carter-Vickers’ arrival on deadline day increased the competition in the heart of the defence though and Welsh has found first-team minutes hard to come by recently. This could be his chance to win back a place in the first-team though.

With Starfelt expected to be out of action for the next couple of games at least, most people would expect Welsh to take his place in the team beside Carter-Vickers, although both of them have featured mostly in the right-hand side of the central defensive pairing.
