Two Celtic players already fighting for Parkhead futures

Heading into the summer transfer window, Celtic knew that they needed to make several changes to their squad. The club had finished the previous season trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership table. On the other hand, several long-time first-team stars appeared to be headed on their way out of the club as well. And they had a new manager as well in the form of Ange Postecoglou.

Ultimately, Celtic made several signings over the summer as was expected and needed. Twelve new players arrived at Parkhead overall, ten on a permanent basis and two on loan. And it is arguable that they need to make a few more additions this January, as the squad does not have a lot of depth yet.

Some of the summer signings have worked out brilliantly. While others are still finding their feet at Parkhead.

Two of the first arrivals in the summer were Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide. But as reported by The Scottish Sun, the duo are already fighting for their Celtic futures. It is understood that they are not considered at the levels yet of those ahead of them in the pecking order right now.

Shaw and Urhoghide are already fighting for their Celtic futures

Both the players were previously with Sheffield Wednesday and had managed to break into their first-team picture. They were highly-rated and were considered as major coups for Celtic when the club signed them.

Shaw had already agreed a pre-contract agreement earlier and Urhoghide arrived just days after Postecoglou was appointed as the club’s manager.

It is safe to say that things have not gone as many would have expected for Shaw and Urhoghide this season. While they did feature in pre-season they are yet to make their competitive debuts for Celtic.

And with the competition for spots at both centre-back and central midfield, a loan spell away could serve both Shaw and Urhoghide well.
