Wayne Rooney’s comments a major worry for Celtic

Celtic have had a lot to excited about in recent weeks. They have won four straight games and are looking in good form once again. Several important players like Kyogo, Callum McGregor, Josip Juranovic and others have returned from injury. And the club have been linked with several interesting players, with the January transfer window around a couple of months away.

One such player is Derby County’s Lee Buchanan. The 20-year-old has been great in recent times and has already managed to establish himself in Wayne Rooney’s starting XI.

On the other hand, Celtic appear to have a problem when it comes to their left-back position. While they have quite a few players capable of playing there, Greg Taylor, Liam Scales, Boli Bolingoli, Adam Montgomery and even Juranovic if the situation calls for it, none of them appear to have nailed down their spot in the starting XI.

As a result, it is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in signing a highly-rated young left-back like Buchanan. But Rooney’s past comments about the player’s departure will be a major worry for Celtic.

Rooney’s past comments will be a major worry for Celtic’s Buchanan hopes

As reported by the Derby Telegraph, Buchanan was linked with a move away, along with Nathan Byrne, in the summer as well and back then Rooney said:

“None of my players are going anywhere.

“Obviously, we haven’t got enough players as it is.

“The way we are trying to play, they are the two most important players on the pitch, so none of my players will be leaving the club this transfer window unless it is to benefit them, whether it is a loan, but that can only happen if we are allowed to bring players in.”

Now, Derby County find themselves at the bottom of the Championship table as they were handed a 12-point ban after entering administration.

Thus, they face quite a task when it comes to staying up in the second division of English football and thus, it will be interesting to see whether they will let one of the best players leave in the middle of the season. But then, their financial troubles at the moment are well known. Thus, it remains to be seen what happens regarding the matter.
