“Good players cost money” – John Hartson brilliantly uses Celtic TV to put transfer pressure on the board.

As Celtic cruised to another three points at Celtic Park today with a 2-0 win over St Johnstone, what was striking as the match neared it’s close was the different options Hoops gaffer had available from the bench.

With more creative and attacking players recovering from injury, Postecoglou has the ability to keep the momentum of his high press game going right to the end of the full 90 minutes.

And it is paying off.

Two late goals in a week has shown that with the right personnel the Hoops can continue their high tempo style to force teams into mistakes.

But speaking on Celtic TV, John Hartson superbly used the clubs own platform to put pressure on the board to back their manager in the January window, “Well of course but every team has injuries. That’s normality. Clubs have injuries.

“But for me, you’ve got to bring quality in to add to the quality that you’ve got.

“No point just bring it in place to have numbers. You’ve got to have real quality and keep going.

“Without getting carried away, what we’ve done already this season.

“I just think the prize is there at the end of the season. It makes Celtic stronger. Make us more consistent.

“You need good players to choose from, that they can bring on from the bench.

“So, it’s not going to be cheap, good players cost money but I think Celtic has to back  the manager because they know the prize at the end of the season is absolutely massive.

“You can’t take your eyes off that prize.”

And Hartson, is of course, correct.

We witnessed early in the season the impact lack of options had on the team and results, we cannot allow another bad run of injuries to hamper the good progress the Celtic manager has made.
